Review: Samsung Galaxy J3 smartphone (2016) [vídeo]

Samsung is one of the manufacturers that most launch smartphone models to the market. Within its portfolio, the “Galaxy J” line is one of the company’s biggest bets in 2016 for the intermediate device segment.

The Galaxy J3 2016 is one of the devices in this line, which focuses on the general public by offering good value for money to consumers. Is it worth betting on this Samsung smartphone? That’s what you can see in another Viral Vinny analysis.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 smartphone was kindly loaned by the Girafa online store and by the Samsung Advisory Board to carry out this analysis.

design

The Galaxy J3 2016 is a smartphone made entirely of plastic, including the edges – which simulate a metallic material – and the removable back cover, which is designed to look like a kind of leather. Although the look is simple, the design of this smartphone is surprising for being quite attractive, reminding a little of what Samsung did before employing premium materials in its top of the line.

The J3 is quite thin, only 7.9 mm thick, highlighting the side edges. Although it has no metal in its construction, the design is very reminiscent of what is used in the Galaxy S6.

On the front, Samsung’s traditional button scheme is present, which fails to provide backlighting on the capacitive buttons. The smartphone has a good grip and is easy to handle with just one hand. Underneath the back cover we find the removable battery and the slots for the two SIM chips and micro SD card.

Screen

Even in mid-range devices, Samsung usually offers the Super AMOLED display. However, in the J3, the result is slightly saturated images that exaggerate in light tones, which ends up not pleasing.

As for size and resolution, we were satisfied with the J3, which is a good option for consuming content such as videos, photos and texts. However, we missed an automatic brightness adjustment option.

Interface

The Galaxy J3 comes equipped with Android Lollipop and Samsung’s traditional TouchWiz interface. The experience is pleasant and fluid, but don’t expect to receive many OS updates in the future.

Performance

As for performance, we were satisfied with what the J3 offers. The device has a performance that meets its proposal well, not choking in the performance of everyday tasks, such as calls and sending messages. We also had no problems using social networks, light games and productivity apps.

However, slightly heavier games have a considerable drop in performance, which is natural for the J3 hardware. What bothered me the most was the internal storage capacity, which ended up limiting the installation of some apps. It is worth remembering that even the use of a micro SD card does not solve the problem, as it is not possible to transfer apps to the external memory.

Camera

The J3’s camera is another point that stands out, especially if we take into account the device’s proposal. The main sensor is capable of capturing really good images that will please even the most demanding. Night photos unfortunately suffer from excessive grain, but nothing that compromises the user experience.

The front camera also serves very well who will buy this smartphone, offering the ability to capture good selfies in various conditions. Unfortunately, neither of the two cameras record videos in Full HD.

Drums

The J3’s battery also surprised, providing an autonomy of up to two days under moderate use. In the stress test, it took seven hours to fully drain the device’s charge, a respectable mark.

audio

If there’s one point that the J3 doesn’t like very much, it’s the audio. The sound played by the smartphone is quite shy, and the headphones that come with the set are a little uncomfortable.

Samsung Galaxy J3 2016

It is worth it?

Faced with competitors such as the Vibe K5, the LG K8 and the Grand Prime, from Samsung itself, the J3 proves to be a great option. Although its launch price reaches almost R$1,000, during our tests we found it for just over R$700.

For this price, consumers will take home a really competent device that serves its purpose very well. It is worth betting on this smartphone if you are looking for value for money. The Galaxy J3 is certainly one of the best and cheapest mid-rangers currently available on the market.
